De Stijl Art Gallery
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
The De Stijl Art Gallery is located in Ruskin, FL and is the newest and most unique gallery in the
South Hillsborough County art community.
This gallery is distinctive in its presence for it occupies what is a unique architectural building design commissioned by the Observer Dispatch Newspaper in 1976. In compliment this building has become a piece of art itself as it is painted in the style of Piet Mondrian commemorating the De Stijl Neo Plastic movement of 1920. The gallery will represent established and emerging local artists providing an opportunity to own a distinct piece of art.
In addition; one of the gallery’s mission points is to encourage art development which encompasses eco or "Green" elements versus just the normal techniques found in sculpture or painting.

August DiPerna developed a passion for art at a very young age. He would sketch on anything that he could find. His grade school art teacher submitted several of his artwork to Carnegie Mellon University; they had a prodigy program for gifted young artists. August was accepted and studied at the Carnegie Museum of Art on Saturday mornings for several years. Later he furthered his artistic education at Ivy School of Fine Art in Pittsburgh, PA. His studies consisted of art history, studies of the human anatomy with focus of creative compositions using the techniques of the Renaissance Masters. He believes creative endeavors such as music and art help nourish the soul.

Some of you may be wondering why the style of paint décor on the outside of the building.
This is based on the art work of Piet Mondrian. Piet Mondrian is a Dutch painter best known for being one of the founders of the De Stijl (de style) which incorporated an art movement that worked around abstract works and the new art forms that were being introduced to the world in the early 20th century.
De Stijl is Dutch for "The Style", also known as Neoplasticism. It was a Dutch art movement founded in 1917 in Leiden, Amsterdam. De Stijl consisted of artists and architects. In a narrower sense, the term De Stijl is used to refer to a body of work from 1917 to 1931 founded in the Netherlands. Proponents of De Stijl advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and color. They simplified visual compositions to vertical and horizontal, using only black, white and primary colors.
